Man found dead in Embleton, Bradford

A death investigation is under way after a man’s body was found in a town centre. The police were called to the scene, in Embleton near Saltaire, near Bradford, at about 11.25am on Wednesday.

It has been reported that the man, believed to be in his 40s, was not the victim of a violent crime and officers have not yet named him. The coroner is to be informed and inquiries are continuing.

The area around the house has been cordoned off and local residents were being asked to remain indoors as officers questioned local people.

One woman told the Express and Star: “We heard there had been a body found and now we’re in the dark. We saw lots of police cars driving past a long time ago, and a young boy was taken away in an ambulance.

“It’s very upsetting, especially for the boy who was taken away. No one has come to tell us anything yet, and the house is blocked off.”

Another resident, who gave her name as Betty, said: “It seems very quiet. We’ve lived here six years and have never heard a car in the area. There’s a bus stop here, but we never usually get on it so we don’t know if it would be there.

“We don’t live too far from the square and we saw some police cars circling around that. They’ve cordoned off a wide area and the road is cordoned off as well. The police have asked local people to stay indoors, which isn’t the best idea as we have a grandson visiting us from abroad.

“It’s been quiet for a while, and we’ve never heard a car in the area. There’s a bus stop, but we don’t know if it would be there at all.

“The place is quite deserted because many people have got houses on the other side of the housing development so it’s very quiet. I haven’t got a dog, but maybe I should, as some people said the police probably had dogs there, but we don’t.

“Police told us they would return at a later date to take a statement from a neighbour. They didn’t give any clues of what was going on. I’m not sure what type of house the body was found in.”

Another woman, known as Mary, added: “I know I live very close to where it was found, but I don’t know much.”
